The Rant is Due
It’s been fascinating, though not really unexpected, to see Trump's response to the Democratic National Convention which, in part, trolled him, but in large part pretty much just described him as is. The meltdown that’s followed is pure Trump.
What I especially love are all the MAGOP officials who have been very public in begging Trump to stick to policy and leave all the personal attacks alone. Putting aside that “all the personal attacks” are who Trump is and has been for the past eight years, that the party has enabled – but I want some reporter to ask them is…what are you talking about?? When is the last time you ever heard a Trump rally ever deal with “policy”??!
Trump’s latest insane campaign "strategy" is ranting "What gives her the right to run?" The thing is, as much as one’s initial reaction is wanting to jump in with the long laundry list of reasons, there’s no need to because all the easy answers to his question don't matter -- the only point that matters is that this is what he considers an issue. And even worse for him and his party, in raising the question it shows his fear.
The reality – and I mean real, literal reality – is that VP Kamala Harris is his opponent, whether Trump accepts it or not, whether he or any MAGOP understands a list of explanations or not. And dealing with reality has not been a Trump strong point. Having early dementia doesn't help.
But the question he asks here doesn’t stand alone. Being Trump, it’s only one lunatic rant in the tsunami of meltdowns. That’s why the description of Trump and “JD Vance” as “weird” has had an impact. Because it resonates. People really get it. (Video of “Vance” trying to interact like a human when ordering doughnuts, but failing, only reinforces it. “Okay. Good.”) It gnaws at Trump so much that he’s even said that claims of being weird weren’t directed at him, but at his running mate! Which itself is a extremely weird thing for a presidential candidate to say. The thing is, much as he says he's bothered by being called "weird," he daily shows why he is. And why they are.
In one of his online meltdown rants about how Kamala Harris shouldn’t be a candidate, Trump wrote that "She failed in her previous attempt, was the first one out of 22 people to quit, never made it to Iowa, and now she’s a Presidential Candidate?" But because Trump has zero self-awareness, he is clueless in how he’s describing himself. And draws attention to the reality that in 2000, Trump himself ran for the nomination to be the Reform Party candidate, and failed in that previous attempt. Even more, he never made to the first primary, quitting the race before it was held. And, yes, now is a presidential candidate.
But even better, I love -- just love -- that Trump is now trying to run a "Tough on Crime" strategy. In one of his meltdown on the subjects, for instance, he's written that "Kamala Harris is the Weakest Presidential Candidate in History on Crime."
I think we can all say the next part together: Trump, of course, is convicted of 34 felonies, found liable of rape, and guilty of fraud. And had his charity foundation shut down. Meanwhile VP Kamela Harris is a former prosecutor, twice elected Attorney General of CA. And all that his ranting does is remind people of the reality. He can't miss what her background is, there’s no way he can be unaware of it, it's one of the highlights of her stump speech, drawing roars of approval when she says she's put away criminals like Trump.
And it gets even worse.
There’s a phrase about him that’s taken hold for a while: Every accusation by Trump is an admission. It’s astonishing how often he projects all his own flaws in his attacks on others. Blissfully unaware of what he’s doing – he must be, otherwise he wouldn’t do it. Who would intentionally shine a Klieg light on their own monumental problems when proclaiming you’ve never done anything wrong that would even require going to church to confess?
And so, in another of his meltdowns after the DNC, Trump ranted that VP Harris has allowed millions of immigrants through our borders, many of them "from prisons and mental institutions." There are several words that Trump should never bring up, because they only serve to draw attention to the worst negatives Trump has -- and at the top of the list, with his own court sentencing coming up, is saying "prisons". And a very close second, being someone who psychologists and psychiatrists have said shows signs of early dementia, is "mental institutions".
And MAGOP officials go on TV publicly begging Trump -- publicly!! -- to avoid personal attacks and stick to policy.
Putting aside that Trump pretty much never has talked about policy, what policy do MAGOP leaders want him to talk about?? Trump is so terrified about losing even more of the women vote than he already has that the very next day after the Democratic Convention nominated Kamala Harris, he had a panic attack and put out social media posts that said his administration would be "great for women and reproductive rights" and that his party was "leading the way on IVF"!!!! No, that was not a parody story from The Onion. It was from the man who has repeatedly (and correctly) taken credit, proudly, for ending women's Constitutional right to abortion, and whose party is fighting to block contraceptives and IVF. And passing laws in Red states to block women from traveling to another state to get an abortion.
With Trump these days, as he fights his inner demons to ignore reality he doesn't like, it's hard to tell if he's lying, panicking, ranting or just breathing. Whatever it is, as MAGOPs like to say, that's just Trump being Trump.
And MAGOP officials go beg Trump to stop personal attacks and stick to...policy.
Dream on. That’s who Trump is. This is the man who promised his “big, beautiful healthcare” program in two weeks -- he said that first in 2015, nine years ago. And kept repeating it. We're still waiting. He regularly promised "Infrastructure Week" so often until it became a punchline. His own adviser Kellyanne Conway went on TV and said in her outdoor voice for everyone to hear that they deal in “alternative facts.” When you don’t have a clue, making things up is your only option. Trump doesn’t do policy. Trump does personal attacks. MAGOP officials who support him and have long enabled him have to know that. They can plead all they want, beg for for policy, in public on TV (the only way to get Trump’s attention), but it isn’t happening. Never before and most certainly not at this point. The meltdown rants we're seeing after the DNC? That's what the MAGOP are going to get from now on.
Psychologist Dr. Jack Gartner, a professor from Johns Hopkins has said he tell people to look at Trump now, because it’s the best they will ever see him. That dementia is degenerative, and he’s not getting better.
There are few phrases that more perfectly describe the problem MAGOPs face when dealing with the reality of the pathological Trump:
You made your bed, now lie in it.
This is where I often like to end my articles with a song that encapsulates the point of what I just wrote. I had one in mind, but this from the Washington Post is far better. The only thing wrong with it is that there are more than 15 --
