The Other Cookie Monster

George Conway wrote a sarcastic op-ed in the Washington Post this week that parodied how Trump responds to every crisis about him, and in Conway's article the issue that Trump was dealing with was missing cookies.

I didn’t read it, but Conway was a guest on MSNBC yesterday with John Heileman.  And apparently, the newspaper had Conway also do an audio version of the column and had him read it.  So, Heileman asked him to give a taste of that and read a passage.  And what was written was pretty amusing.

At that point, though, Conway acknowledged that he doesn’t do a Trump impersonation, but at least tried to get the cadence – however, he then added that a really good Trump version of piece was when -- JL Cauvin read it!!!

As readers of these pages know, I'm a big admirer of the Trump videos that JL Cauvin did, getting the voice, syntax, digression and mannerism spot on.  He was my favorite of the Trump impersonators, even that Sarah Cooper's lip-syncing got the most attention.

So, I tracked it down, and yes, Cauvin did indeed do a reading of it.  It’s a lot of fun – not close to his best because he’s not being extemporaneous, but instead is reading someone else’s article and doesn’t have Conway's material memorized.  So, it doesn’t have the energy of his usual stuff.  But the writing is good, and his voice is wonderful, so it’s enjoyable.

By the way, apparently, he has a site where he still does regular videos.  And that makes sense.  What makes sense, too, is why he’d have a post-presidency career at ridiculing what Trump would say about things, and why Ms. Cooper doesn’t appear to.  She’s limited by miming Trump speeches and interviews on video.  And most of what Trump releases to the public today are written, nothing you can mime.  But plenty to ridicule, which is prime material for Cauvin.
