The Great Trump Cover-Up
Updated: Jul 25
Oh, my God, here we go yet again.
First, there was (and remains) a tarp covering up the Kennedy Center sign, after a court ordered Trump’s name removed from the building.
Then, the other day, a tarp was raised to cover up construction on the White House columns, for which administration officials said work needed to be done, after Trump has said he wants them to look more like the gold-plated columns at Mar-a-Lago.
And now, once again, another tarp is covering up the repair work on the Reflecting Pool, to hide that, contrary to Trump and MAGOP insistence, evidence of tire tracks show it didn't get damaged and shredded by "vandals", but by shoddy work (by the company who caused the damage) -- and most probably Trump's motorcade that drove across the newly-painted floor before it had had time to be “cured” and re-filled with water.

In fairness, I believe that this photo has been mis-identified as being the Reflecting Pool. Instead, it appears to me to be the local "Fun Daze GoKart" track in nearby Alexandria.
This all is ludicrous and infantile. Trump having his team order construction crews to cover up damage he keeps causing – in his Beautification Program (sic) – with tarps. Because that way, no one will notice there’s a problem!
This is like a little child playing peek-a-boo, covering his eyes and thinking therefore no one can see him. It’s an ostrich putting its head in the sand and thinks, aha!, it’s now hidden.
“Let’s just cover the damage we caused with a massive tarp. Nobody will pay any attention to it and think anything got screwed up.”
Not pay any attention to it?! It’s like shining a Klieg light on the screw up. It’s the fake Wizard of Oz desperately shouting, “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!” All you want to do when you see the tarp -- each time Trump has another tarp put on -- -- is take it off to find out what damage it’s covering up.
The quips on social media are running rampant, most starting with some version of wondering if Trump has a friend who runs a tarp business.
“The most transparent administration in history” is how press secretary-in-training Karoline Leavitt always tries to describe the Trump team. It’s long been my sense that, among a great many things she doesn’t understand, is that she doesn’t fully grasp the meaning of the word ‘transparent.’
(Side Note: Unrelated to all this is today’s Little Known Fun Fact that is that as Karoline Leavitt pontificates from her holier-than-thou sense of Trumpian self-righteous purity, she still owes $326,370 to over 100 creditors for her failed campaign debts from 2022, four years ago! Because, of course.)
The most whimsical thing about all this effort by Trump to cover up his many Beautification projects (sic) causing damage is that Republicans have a history of hating TARP. (Most of the party reviled the Troubled Asset Relief Program.) But apparently, as long as a tarp covers up damage, rather than averts a financial crisis, they’re just fine with it.
But still, we take what we can. So, as long as MAGOPs can support Trump Avoid Reality Plan, it’s wonderful to finally be able to say that the party is, at long last, on board with tarps.
And wonderful, too, how even far more appropriate "The Wizard of Oz" turns out to have been 87 years ago than just a quip about cover-ups.
