I thought that I should continue our Benjamin Franklin 310th birthday celebration by adding yet another song that features him in yet another Broadway musical -- of course, 1776. This time he's played by Howard DaSilva, who recreated his performance from the stage show for the film.
(DaSilva is not on the Broadway cast album, because he had suffered a heart attack when it was recorded right before the opening. However, he recovered enough to insist being on stage opening night. He returned to the hospital soon after, but eventually was back in the show.)
Also in the scene are two others from the original Broadway production -- William Daniels as John Adams, and Ken Howard as Thomas Jefferson. All three are waiting to hear how Congress reacts to hearing the Declaration of Independence read for the first time, as the three mean wait over the hatching of "The Egg." The music and lyrics are by Sherman Edwards.
Robert J. Elisberg is a political commentator, screenwriter, novelist, tech writer and also some other things that I just tend to keep forgetting.
