The Daily Stewart This Week
Rather than his usual Monday, Jon hosted The Daily Show on Thursday, live from Chicago for the final night of the Democratic Convention. It's a lot of fun, and often very funny.
He had a bit of a challenge, being a political satire comedy show and coming in on the fourth night following what has generally been called an highly-impressive acceptance speech by Kamala Harris and some strong programming throughout the last night. So, some of the stretches to find comedy are a little thin, and a few even go back to earlier in the week, days that the show had already covered.
(One example of thin: They show a clip of VP Harris talking about living in Illinois and Wisconsin -- and then cut back to Stewart joking about her naming all the Swing States she lived in. It's a funny idea and gets good laughs. Except...Illinois isn't remotely close to a Swing State, but very solid Blue. So, out of two states she mentioned, only one of them is a Swing State. In other words, she was just naming states she actually did live in. The family lived in Urbana -- where her sister Maya was born -- home of the University of Illinois; and Evanston, the home, of course, of the beloved Northwestern; and in Madison, home of the University of Wisconsin. In other words, three college towns where her parents either taught or held research positions!)
Still, there are things here that are extremely funny. And overall, the show did a great job this week in Chicago and at the Convention.
