The Book of Matthew
You likely saw clips of Matthew McConaughey's speech yesterday at the White House. But clips don't do it justice. For 21 minutes, he was moving, impassioned, thoughtful, heartbreaking, sincere and superb. Yes, there are some dramatic touches to his presentation, but that's his training, who he is. Ultimately, this is clearly deeply from his heart as he talks about the town where he was born and grew up.
At the end of his speech as he walks off, you can hear reporters shouting out questions, and one cuts through them all. It's a voice calling out, "Was that just grandstanding, sir?" (Apparently the "sir" was supposed to make the question more professional and decent. Alas, it failed miserably. Though it did succeed as an example of actual grandstanding. In the most callous way.) This got a great deal of attention on social media, including from reporters in the room. It will not shock you to learn that the person was from Newsmax. His name, James Rosen.
The video shows the full thing being 31 minutes, though the speech itself is, as I said, 21 minutes. The remainder is press secretary Karine Jean Pierre making comments and then cutting back to the ABC studio.
