The Blame Game
The week hasn’t started out well for Trump. Or for Pete Hegseth, either.
It began with the breaking news that, once again, Defense Secretary Hegseth invited family members onto a group chat where classified information was discussed on an non-secure system. That’s when White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt pointed out how 20,000 members of the Defense Department are against Trump, but that Trump still supports him. This is known as “damning with faint praise.” After all, putting aside if 20,000 in DoD really are against Pete Hegseth (they may be, but who knows, this is Karoline Leavitt, after all...), the press secretary only speaks what Trump wants public. So, Hegseth's days as Defense Secretary (in office only three months) seem clearly numbered.
But no matter how bad this is for the wildly unqualified and incompetent Hegseth --
REMEMBER: This is on TRUMP who nominated Pete Hegseth.
This was followed by the news that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem lost $3,000 and sensitive government information including her DHS access badge when her purse was stolen at a Washington, D.C. restaurant.
Much was made of her carrying $3,000 and for unknown reason. But that aside, that wasn’t the story to me. After all, anyone can be robbed, however much money was in her purse. But having your DHS security access badge stolen only puts focus on how wildly unqualified and incompetent she was seen the moment her nomination was announced. But far more to the point, the optics of this theft of her purse with $3,000 and her sensitive government material and no doubt having protection with her and…and…and being the head of HOMELAND SECURITY is just utterly horrible – and coming on the heels of all of DEFENSE Secretary Pete Hegseth's many lapses (including the story just the day before) -- speaks volumes about Trump's judgement. Because --
REMEMBER: This is on TRUMP who nominated Kristi Noem, pet dog killer.
And while those two stories lead the way for Trump, given how they both revolve around security lapses for two major security heads who Trump nominated, it wasn’t the end of Trump’s really bad, awful week – all the more since it wasn’t even the “end” of his week, but only Tuesday.
That’s because Trump put out yet another long, whiney rant on his social media site, trying desperately to blame the massive economic problems he's caused by slamming respected Fed Chair Jerome Powell. Putting aside that, as incompetent as Trump thinks Powell is and has suggested he wants him fired, it’s not possible by law for a president to fire the Fed Chair over policy, there’s one major thing Trump has overlooked --
REMEMBER: This is on Trump who nominated Jerome Powell
That was back during Trump’s first term. Barack had nominated Powell to the Federal board, but it was Trump who promoted him to Fed Chair. And the thing is, it was a very good choice, widely accepted and admired. So, if Trump says that he now hates and in his own disturbed mind thinks that Powell is terrible -- that's 100% on Trump.
Just like nominating the actually incompetent and actually dangerous to national security Pete Hegseth is 100% on Trump.
And just like nominating the actually incompetent and actually dangerous to national security Kristi Noem is 100% on Trump.
Because in the end, all this disaster is on Trump. And…on the elected MAGOPs in Congress who enable all Trump’s actions, approve all his nominees, and entact all his policies, making them their own.
