Tease Force Five

The other day, I posted the first of several episodes of the Strike Force Five podcast.  That, as I explained, was a podcast that the five nighttime talk show hosts did during the Writers Guild Strike to help raise money for their staffs.  All 12 episodes were a joy and often hilarious, but several stood out and those are the ones I said I’d be posting from time to time.

As a sort of teaser bonus, and in honor of him returning to The Daily Show, I thought I’d post this short video for the next one I'll soon be posting, which features a guest they invite to join them -- Jon Stewart.  The podcast is just that, all audio only.  But they released a few, very short videos from episodes, and that’s what this is.  It’s only three minutes, but is a lot of fun.  It starts with Jimmy Fallon asking Stewart a totally softball question -- well-intentioned, but so far out of the parameters of the blunt comic sensibility of the rest of the series, where the participants regularly chide one another, sometimes mercilessly -- and the others call him out on it, which snowballs from there.  As enjoyable as the podcast series was, seeing this video makes you wish they did the whole thing this way, at least as an option.

And as a bonus, here's the moment with John Oliver, doing his very first piece for The Daily Show, that they're talking about.

(NOTE: The video says, "almost broke his nose," but Oliver says there's no "almost" about it, that he did indeed break his nose.)
