Taking Stock

The other day, when the stock market rose 3,000 points after Trump was largely forced to temporarily pause his tariffs against every country in the world -- other than China  whose tariff he raised to 125%, which is no small thing since it's a massive trading partner and will have a huge inflationary impact -- Trump started bragging about what a great negotiator (also known as stock manipular) he was.

Three things are worth noting --

First, even after the stocks rose 3,000 points on Wednesday, the Dow Jones average was still 3,000 points below what the market had been the day Trump was inaugurated.  So, that whole "great negotiator" con should be taken in its full perspective.

Second, despite stocks rising 3,000 points on Wednesday, the Dow was still 1,200 points short of just making up the 4,200 point loss over the previous three trading days that Trump had caused by invoking his "masterful" tariffs on every country and territory in the world, including those that only had penguins residing there.  So, that whole "great negotiator" flim-flam should be...well, you know.

And third, the very next day after that huge jump...the stock market dropped another 1,014 points.  Which means that the Dow Jones is now 4,000 points below that it was the day he took office.

It was also nice to see both Adam Schiff and Elizabeth Warren say that Democrats in the Senate should begin an investigation into Trump's apparent manipulation of the stock market -- and the next day (yesterday) House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced that House Democrats would be launching an investigation of stock manipulation by Trump.

And a reminder that during the election, Trump promised he would lower prices on Day One that he took office.

Who knew that the only thing he was referring to was the price of stocks...
