Excuse me for coming late to the party, I suspect -- given that this movie is opening in only a couple of months -- but I just came across a trailer for an upcoming film that has just risen to #1 on my Most Want to See list. It's Saving Mr. Banks, the story of the battle between two powerful forces, Walt Disney and author P.L. Travers, about the contentious making of Mary Poppins. I'm counting the reasons with it's now #1 in Elisbergland. For starters, it stars Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. It also has an impressive supporting cast -- Paul Giamatti, Colin Farrell, Bradley Whitford, Jason Schartzman, Rachel Griffiths. And importantly, though the trailer says "the untold story," I know a lot of the story and it's fascinating. But even more, the parts of the story I don't know -- which are many -- look even more fascinating. And for all this, the movie could see miss the mark, but the trailer looks just...well, no, I won't use that word. That connotes whimsy. This just looks beautifully, lovingly, carefully, intelligently done. Take a look. And be prepared to know you now have to patiently wait...
