Since it's Election Night, and I suspect most people will be focused on television and the news results, I figure it's best to just provide a brief respite when someone might need a break. So, here is one of the best politics songs from a musical. It's "Politics and Poker" from the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning Fiorello!, with a score by Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock, who a few years later would write Fiddler on the Roof.
The show starred Tom Bosley, though this song features Howard DaSilva. Of note is that about eight years later, DaSilva would star in another musical about politics that would win the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award as Best Musical, 1776, playing the role of 'Benjamin Franklin.' Here he plays 'Ben Marino,' the political boss of the organization trying to defeat the corrupt Tammany Hall, who always beats them.
