I've been writing for a long time here that this is no longer about Trump since we know who he is, but about the elected officials of the Republican Party who enable him. I look forward to seeing if Republicans stand and CHEER Trump at the State of the Union Address when he's introduced. I suspect they will -- proving to the public that this is about THEM enabling Trump. It's one thing for them to stand and cheer specific proposals (I get that, egregious as the proposals are). And I also get standing to applaud their party leader and the U.S. president when introduced. But to CHEER Trump on general principle when he's introduced speaks volumes and says that you support this man. And assuming they do, the voting public will see it all.
Related to all this, the timing couldn't be worse, since people are now beginning to do their taxes and discovering they are paying more, having gotten screwed by the Trump tax bill, supported by the Republican Party. And people who voted for Trump are now voicing their outrage at him on social media, feeling tricked and abandoned by him. I started responding to all these Trump voters who are NOW voicing their anger at him having gotten their tax bill. But after a while, I got so furious at their myopic selfishness that I stopped. I truly feel bad for their personal plight of paying higher taxes -- but I feel far worse for all the others didn't vote for him, whether in this country or elsewhere around the world, who innocently got screwed by him in even more profound ways, repeatedly. And meanwhile, the Republicans in Congress will likely stand and CHEER their leader. This is no longer about Trump. This is about the Republican Party who enable him.
