Something to Love

This is a wonderful find.  As I’ve mentioned here, one of the best ‘Tevye’s’ to play the role in Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway has long been considered to be Herschel Bernardi.  But there’s very little footage of him in the role.  I’ve posted what few thingsI can find.  But not only is this rare video of him, but what makes it so special is who he sings with.  Coming from the 1981 revival, this is Bernardi with Maria Karnilova – who played ‘Golde’ in the original 1964 Broadway production, opposite Zero Mostel! – singing “Do You Love Me?”

By the way, as a fun tidbit of information, Herschel Bernardi and Maria Karnilova had starred together on Broadway in the original 1968 production of Zorba, with a score by Kander and Ebb.
