Somebody Feed Mel

For those of you who watch Phil Rosenthal's wonderful food and travel series, Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix, you know that near the end, he always talks to a comedian for a few minutes over Zoom -- from wherever in the world Phil is visiting that week -- before the guest delivers a "Joke for Max." That's in memory of Phil's dad who always had a joke when Phil called over Zoom talk with him and Phil's mom near the end of that week's episode.

And if you've seen the episode in the new season when the show traveled to Australia, you know that the guest who Phil called back home to briefly chat with and then tell a joke was...Mel Brooks.  Well, it won't likely shock you to learn that they actually chatted for much longer than only a few minutes, and it all got edited down for broadcast.  But Phil recently posted the full conversation, which lasted 20 minutes.

It will also not shock you to know that this longer conversation is much more unwieldly than what gets included on the show, and isn't always funny, just chit-chat before getting to the joke.  But it's still enjoyable to watch, and there's definitely humor throughout and fun tales about working with Carl Reiner and his days as a kid starting out in the Catskills.

By the way, in case you haven't seen the show, when they get to this segment there's a camera on Phil, as well as the guest comedian, so they cut back-and-forth between them.  Which also, obviously, allows them to edit down the conversation for broadcast.  But for this video, they only use the footage of the camera on Mel.

Here 'tis.
