I posted some videos in the past of Dick Van Dyke and his a capella singing group, The Vantastiks, but not for a while. I thought with the start of the Democratic National Convention, this was as good a day as any to kick it off with the National Anthem. This performance comes before the start of a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game. What I like about this is that although he's been announced with the group, the crowd probably doesn’t seem think that Dick Van Dyke is actually singing much, but then when they realize he is, they react --

With the actor's longstanding association with comedy it is sometimes forgotten that he sang on Broadway for many years. Thank you for the posting his performance.

Thanks for your note. Dick Van Dyke has always quipped that he wasn't a singer, which is what makes his a capella work all the more impressive. He did do a couple of Broadway musicals, although the only original one was "Bye Bye Birde." He also starred in the 1980 Broadway revival of "The Music Man" (which I saw on the road pre-Broadway in Los Angeles.) And then of course there are his movie musicals, "Mary Poppins" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."
