Sofft Landing
Okay, so let's start the day with some wonderful news about my friend Greg Van Buskirk and his partners with their Kickstarter project for Sofft fabric softener and stain repellent. Their goal was $25,000, and they passed it this morning. In fact, they crashed through the ceiling and are now up to $30, 642. And they still have 18 days to go. (It starts with you getting 42 days, so this only took barely half the time.) I'm sure that at a certain point it will slow down, but they're overjoyed.
What happened is that things were going well, and they were on a pace to reach their goal by about $1,000 or so. I kept telling them it would help SO much if they started posting on social media, but it just wasn't something they had much experience with. (Hey, they're scientists, they work in laboratories...) Greg posted a bit, and it helped, but there was a limit. Then after more than enough noodging, the company made two small dives into the social media pool yesterday and...yowza. Through the roof. They had been a bit over $21,000 yesterday morning and, as I said, they're now over $30,000.
As Greg said, they were indeed a little slow on the uptake with social media. I replied that that wasn't being fair to the word "slow."
Anyway, here is part of an email I wrote to him this morning, to show how fast things were moving. I sent it after I saw they'd passed their $25,000 goal and were over $28,000. I wrote some words of congratulations, and added a paragraph about social media, and then went to check the Kickstarter page again before returning to my email, at which point I added --
And while typing this, you went up another $750!$29,281. Not bad at all. And still 18 days to go.So, how does this work? I assume people can keep pledging -- and continue getting their "level gifts." (Well, obviously they can, since the number keeps rising. ) So, the game is that we see how much you end up with. This is so great. And while typing those last three pargragraphs, you went up another $140. Perhaps I should keep typing…Congratulations! Now, you have to go out to the still in the back and start brewing up the stuff.Since typing that last paragraph, you went up another $280. So, it’s now $29,706.I’m stopping typing now, you’re on your own.
It's pretty great for them. I know that a few people here made pledges, so you will now officially be charged for them. And will be getting your gift bags eventually. And the thing is, since writing this posting, they went up another $300.
You can read about it here, but here's the proof...
