Sing Fourth

Not shockingly, when playing a bunch of 4th of July songs, we have something now from the musical 1776.  But not from the original Broadway cast or movie -- since they're largely one and the same, and you can see the latter on Turner Classic Movies today...and every year, happily.  Rather, this video comes from the 1997 revival, that starred Brent Spiner as John Adams, a production that got a Tony nomination as Best Revival of a Musical.  (The original production won the Tony Award for Best Musical.)

This the very opening of the show with overture of sorts playing over the rambling activity, leading into "Sit Down, John."

As a bonus, here are William Daniels, Howard DaSilva and Ken Howard recreating their roles from the original Broadway cast in the movies adaptation.

I always feel a certain closeness to the show, which won the Tony Award for Best Musical, because it was the first production I ever saw on Broadway -- and with this original cast.

This is "The Egg," as they sing about the birth of a new nation.
