Silence is Golden

Although there has been extensive TV coverage of Attorney General Merrick Garland appointing a Special Counsel yesterday to investigate classified documents found on Biden property that have been returned, I have next to nothing to add to what I wrote about the situation.  As I noted –

“But for all that sound and fury, whatever the House GOP does, whatever the DOJ does, even if a Special Counsel is appointed, however long Republicans are able to keep the story alive, this is the bottom line:  President Biden is NOT going to get indicted for a crime because of what happened.  But Trump is at serious risk of getting indicted for a crime because of what he did.  That’s the difference.  And it’s a massive difference.”

I completely understand having a Special Counsel.  I also think it’s awful, and when no crime is found or charged, it will convince no one on the extreme right.  But I do understand why it was done to show fairness, and it is probably necessary and equally pathetic.  The one good thing about it is that it undercuts Trump whining about having a Special Counsel investigating him.

There’s also, oddly another “advantage” of having a Special Counsel – now, when House Republicans go to the Department of Justice to get access to information about it all, the DOJ can say, “Sorry, it’s an active investigation, and we don’t comment or give out information.”  Without an investigation, Republicans would be bombarded the DOJ for material, and for months, or perhaps the next two years would be leaking every detail they came across no matter how meaningless, just to keep the story alive.

We now take you to the Jim Jordan portion of our show...

That's because I did find at least some “amusement” in reading a tweet about it all from Rep. Jordan (R-OH).  Jordan, I should note, likes to tweet pithy accusations against Democrats about anything that he thinks should be news that outrages people, and I get the sense that he has no idea how none of them come across like he thinks they do.  Pretty much every one of his tweets I’ve seen have seemed like they were written by a clueless 15-year-old thinking he was being so clever in coming up with insightful thoughts that damn the people he hates – while they only serve to draw attention to his own problems.  Especially given that, in Jordan’s case, they all always allow people to point out that he was a wrestling coach at Ohio State University when there was a sexual abuse scandal, and he not only did nothing to address it, but when asked to testify when the state of Ohio held hearings, he refused.

So, this time, in his latest pithy tweet, Jordan wrote –

“Remember how the Left acted when President Trump took so-called “classified” documents to his home?

“They’re awfully quiet now.”

The problem here, of course, that not only “the Left,” but no one knew that Trump took many boxes of Top Secret-level and Code level (the highest) classified documents when he had them removed from the White House.  In fact, it was not until after well-over a year of the National Archives asking to get them back, Trump refusing, the National Archives having to get a subpoena to get them returned, Trump still refusing and a court-ordered FBI search recovered as much of the material as they could find that anyone, in the public, including probably Jordan himself, and not just “the Left,” knew that Trump had taken highly-secret material.  After which Trump kept suing to keep the documents.

But thanks, Congressman, for making sure to remind everyone of that.

Furthermore, it was President Biden's own lawyers who found the material, informed the National Archives (which didn’t even know the material was missing) and returned it all, and his own Attorney General who hired a Special Counsel to investigate, and Biden is not suing to stop any investigating.  And "the Left" (while generally thinking it's not necessary to have a Special Counsel, since Biden returned everything) is “awfully quiet now” because – unlike Trump and Republicans, because they accept the judicial process and are not screaming about there being an investigation, nor suing to stop it!!

So, once again, a big thanks to Congressman Jordan for trying to make a faux-damning point about how “the Left” is reacting now.

I think “the Left” is acting pretty responsibly now in support of democracy.

But as long as I’m commenting on all this from Jim Jordan, I might was well point out that he was a wrestling coach at Ohio State University when there was a sexual abuse scandal, and he not only did nothing to address it, but when asked to testify when the state of Ohio held hearings, he refused.

In full disclosure.  In case you weren't aware.
