Showing Off

A few weeks back, I posted a few videos, most notably this one here, of Sutton Foster being, as her co-star in Anything Goes, Joel Grey,  referred to her, "a force of nature."  I found another video that confirms that and is too hard to pass up.

The Drowsy Chaperone is one of those shows that falls into the "Oh, geez, I should have seen that" category. When it played out here, the show in a pre-Broadway tryout, I didn't know much about it, and what little I knew didn't interest me much.  It sounded like a forced pastiche.  And I'm not sure I was even aware that Sutton Foster was in it.  O silly me.

I still don't know all that much about the show, though what clips I've seen have been very well-done and quite cleverly amusing.  And this song, done for the Tony Awards, is just a show-stopping hoot.

It's called "Show Off" and lets its star Sutton Foster do just that.  Given how much she has to to show off with, you can just imagine where it goes.  The song starts off low-key and reasonable cute.  And then it builds, and builds and continues to live up to its name.

And Ms. Foster continues to prove her acclaim.  As always, making it look easy.
