Schmigadoon the Trilogy
Okay, today we have one more song from Schmigadoon 2, but this one is different, and I almost feel an obligation to post it because it's not only totally different from the others, but -- as a standalone song on its own -- so wonderful.
Yes, this song is, I guess you could call it, a "parody." But there's nothing funny in it, nor is anything intended to be. Maybe "homage" is a better description. It's based on the song "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret and called here, "Maybe It's My Turn."
(I don't want to give away the line, but there's a lyric in here about "honorable mention" that is absolutely terrific.)
It's even better in context, but rather than go into a long explanation, I'll just let it stand on its own.
The song is sung by Cecily Strong, and she sings the bejeepers out of it. Like all the songs in the two Schmigadoons, it's written (both music and lyrics) by Cinco Paul, who co-created the series and has had an impressive career as a screenwriter, co-writing such films as the Despicable Me series, The Lorax, Horton Hears a Who and The Santa Clause 2. Let's just say he's quite a talented fellow.
