Quote of the Day

"You may be as straight as an arrow, and you may have a friend that is as straight as an arrow.  Say you had a great job with the government where you had this wonderful health plan. I mean, what would prohibit you from saying that you’re gay, and y’all get married and still live as separate, but you get all the benefits? I just see so much abuse in this it’s unreal. I believe a husband and a wife should be a man and a woman, the benefits should be for a man and a woman. There is no way that this is about equality. To me, it’s all about a free ride.”

-- Georgia GOP Chairwoman Sue Everhart, in the Marietta Daily Journal

And the reason that an opposite sex couple wouldn't be able to do this, as well, is because...??

Do some people not step back and think through what they say before they open their mouths?  And yes, I know that that's a rhetorical question.

Actually, forgetting for the moment that there doesn't seem to be a huge demand for fraudulent gay marriages, and that it's more likely that gay marriages are more scrutinized for that very reason than are opposite sex marriages, I would guess that there not only could be this kind of abuse for opposite sex marriages, but there already are.  And have been since, perhaps, the beginning of marriage and wonderful health plans.

Using her logic, therefore, I really hope that Ms. Everhart (R-GA) will not now be coming out against opposite sex marriage, as well.  It could reek havoc with the wedding industry.
