"Positive" News

My reaction to the news about Rudy Giulani testing positive for COVID-19 and then being admitted to the hospital is the same as for when I hear anyone testing positive.  I'm sorry for it and wish him well.  I don't with anyone ill health.  Mind you, lest anyone think I'm a Pollyanna, I'd like him disbarred and in prison, but just not sick with the coronavirus.

Also, that being said, my reaction is also that if someone came to me and said, "Did you hear the news, someone famous just tested positive for COVID-19?", and I had to think of all the great-many possible people who could have, in fact, just actually tested positive -- I'd be okay with finding out it was Rudy Giuliani and not any one of several thousand other people.

By the way, another reason I don't like hear that someone tested positive for COVID-19, whoever they are -- is because getting infected with the cornavirus is not like choosing to drive off a cliff, which is tragic, but impacts only that one person directly.  COVID-19, however, is an infectious disease, and when I hear that a Rudy Giuliani or anyone high in the Republican hierarchy tested positive, my immediate thought is to all the other people who are totally innocent who they likely infected -- who likely infected other innocentss...who may well have infected others.  And how many of those people might possible die.  That's why I don't want anyone to test positive, whoever they are.

Though, again, given that the reality is someone actually did test positive, that it's Rudy Giuliani and not someone who has been doing their best to be safe, nor someone who hasn't been actively trying to undermine democracy, that's okay.

Further, is another factor that plays into this story.

When hearing the news that Rudy Giuliani tested positive for COVID-19, the entire Arizona legislature (many of whom Giuliani had recently been in contact with on his "Let's Undermine Democracy Tour), shut itself down as a precautionary matter.

That story on its own is notable.  But it goes to another level when we put it in full perspective:

So, here we have one solitary man who merely tested positive for COVID-19, and the entire Arizona legislature (!) properly closed down for safety.

Meanwhile, over 2,500 Americans are now quite literally DYING -- dying, not merely testing positive but actually having their life come to an end -- every single day, after day after day after day, and masses of Trump cultists cry whiney tears of outrage at pleas to just wear a freaking face mask.  And keep six feet apart.  Let alone precautionary orders to temporarily lock down for safety.

As the whole Arizona legislature shut down because one person tested positive.  Which was a smart, safe thing to do.

There's such a massive hurdle to get over, but January 20 can't come fast enough because every step blessedly helps.
