One Good Goya Deserves Another
Sometimes he makes it too easy.
Too often he makes it too pathetic.
I want to be very clear about something. This photo is not a parody account. It is not photoshopped. It is absolutely real.
Yes, I know I said that yesterday when I wrote about dear daughter Ivanka Trump posing in her white flouncy clothes, hawking a can of Goya beans, which is illegal for a White House employee -- seemingly because the CEO of Goya praised Trump, and a boycott was organized. I really, honestly thought that that had been a parody photoshop picture, but it was all too real, as was her ad line promotional quote, "Si es Goya, tiene que ser bueno.." And then niece Mary Trump, PhD, posted her sarcastic tweet with a picture of Whole Foods organic 365 line of black beans.
But because this is only the very next day, I have to repeat -- this is not a parody account. It is not photoshopped. This is not from The Onion. This is not a joke from The Daily Show or a preview for Saturday Night Live. This is absolutely real. This was sent out to Instagram yesterday by Donald J. Trump, President of the United States.

Again -- because it must be said again -- this is real.
I don't know. I don't have a clue. I do o't have the slightest idea why Trump thought this was a good idea, or why no staffer couldn't talk him out of it. Maybe distract him with a shiny object or by turning on the TV.
Just as a starting point, when you know your daughter's photo came about because there was a protest over the CEO of Goya praising you -- and there was an outraged, ridiculing reaction to your daughter hawking one can of beans -- why on earth would anyone think it would be a Really Smart Idea to triple-down and keep reminding people why they now hate Goya??????
And we haven't gotten to how illegal it is. If it's illegal for a White House employee to promote a single can of beans, just imagine how illegal it is to promote a whole product line -- by the president -- sitting in the freaking Oval Office!!!!!
And we haven't even gotten to how demeaning it is. Not to the country -- it's stupid for the country, but we're in the middle of a pandemic where so far 140,105 Americans have died. And 47 million Americans applied for unemployment. And Russian put a bounty on U.S. soldiers and Trump has done absolutely nothing. So, we're well-passed what Trump can do to demean the country. But Trump himself is someone who preens himself as a Very Stable Genius who knows more than the generals and who all the world leaders love and who knows all the best people and all the best words -- and he's sitting in the Oval office, thumbs up, an infommercial pitchman for dried beans, wafers, seasoning and garbanzos. The only thing missing was him adding, "And if you buy in the next 30 minutes, I'll throw in a free pan."
Republicans were outraged when President Obama merely wore a tan suit. But with Trump's illegal and humiliating carny come-on, they're not only silent, I wouldn't be surprised if some of them ran to the grocery store and had frijoles y arroz for dinner last night.
And this in the middle of a pandemic. Where 140,105 Americans have died so far . And 47 million Americans applied for unemployment. And social unrest protest has crossed the nation. And Russian put a bounty on U.S. soldiers and Trump has done absolutely nothing.
Let them eat la tarta.
And just as dear Ivanka Trump's clueless photo of an illegal action said so much about the Trump administration, this says even more, because it transcends to why his poll approvals are plummeting.
The latest Quinnipiac poll was released yesterday. Nate Silver of the highly-regarded 538.com rates their accuracy as a B+.
They have Joe Biden up over Trump now by 15 points. 52-37%.
They have Trump's approval down to 36%.
The new Monmouth poll came out yesterday, too. Nate Silver says their accuracy is A+.
I didn't seen many results from Monmouth. I did see that in the critical battleground state of Pennsylvania, Biden is up over Trump by 13 points.
NBC/Wall Street Journal also released a new poll. They have an A+ rating from Nate Silver.
They have Biden up by 11 points. 51-40&.
The country is going in wrong direction – 72%
The country is going in right direction – 19%
Trump's approval is higher than Quinnipiac's at 42% -- but hat’s down three points and is their lowest poll number for Trump in two years.
Should focus be on controlling the spread of the virus – 57%
Should focus be on opening business – 25%
Yes, these are just early polls and only give a sense of direction four months before the election. But imagine how distraught Democrats would feel if the numbers were reversed.
And Trump sits there in the Oval Office, promoting a line of food products -- illegally.
Smile for the camera.
And this is who the elected members of the Republican party enable. Perhaps they'll all get nice food baskets as a thank you gift for their service and complicity. Hopefully it will taste as good with another administration in the White House -- and maybe even another party in charge of both houses of Congress, as well.
Buon gusto!
