My Gag Gag

With Trump's comments yesterday outside the NYC courthouse basically threatening that his supporters go after the New York Attorney General, once again conversation has focused on whether or not a gag order should be placed on Trump.  And if so, how?  And would it be fair to a candidate running for political office?

I have a fantasy dream of what should happen.  And no, it's not anything even remotely close to suggestions that have been made.  It's just my own whimsical wish.  It won't happen.  I know it won't happen.  It won't happen for many reasons, in fact.  So, the bottom line is that - it won't happen, and I know it won't happen.

I would like to think I've made it clear that I know it won't happen.  And that it's just wistful thinking.  Ultimately, in the end, nothing really more than a quip.

But it's still my fantasy dream.

What I wish is that President Biden makes a statement --

"I understand that the former guy is likely to be my opponent in the upcoming presidential race.  And I also understand the challenge that exists for a court to impose a gag order on any person who is running for any office in any election.  There are, of course, court rules that allow for gag orders, and are right to do so, and they've been found absolutely legal.  But it still risks the perception, rightly or wrongly, of being unfair.  And so, with this in mind, I am today making the following pledge -

"Whatever gag order is placed on my potential opponent - I will adhere to, as well. I pledge to not attack or threaten the life of any juror, in any trial, whether my opponent is involved in it or not.  I pledge to not attack or threaten the life of any witness of any trial.  I pledge, as well, to not attack or threaten the life of any judge, in any trial, whether my opponent is involved in it or not.  I also pledge to not attack or threaten the life of any court official, in any trial, whether my opponent is involved in it or not.  And I pledge to not comment on the fairness of any trial that my opponent is involved in.

"Further, I pledge to follow any other gag orders that might be imposed on my opponent other than these.  If there is a gag order placed upon my opponent requiring silence about anything, I agree to stand by them, as well.

"And in making this pledge to adhere to any and all gag orders placed upon my opponent, I believe that free speech will be served in total fairness to the election process.  Thank you.  God bless America, and God protect our troops."

This is my fantasy dream.
