Master of the Words

Yesterday, I posted here a couple of versions of the song "Master of the House" from Les Miserables -- from the original French concept album, and the 10th Anniversary production in English.

I must say that whenever I've heard the song with an audience, they've quite loved it, as did the audience at the 10th anniversary production, roaring with laughter and cheers at the end.  I like the song, but -- well, I've never been able to understand all the words.  To me, when the rollicking chorus comes along, I hear --

Master of the House

Dah-dah-dum-dee-da.

Dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dee-dah-dee-dah-dee-dum

Everybody loves a landlord

Everybody dah-dee-ddaum

Dah-dee-dah-dee-pleases

Jesus dah-dah-dee-ddum

In the end.

Happily, when finding the 10th Anniversary version yesterday I also came across the same rendition (with Alun Armstrong and Jenny Galloway) with the lyrics superimposed   So, I now know what the song is about.  And it's cute and clever.

Perhaps others are like me and don't exactly know all the words.  If so, I offer you the same pleasure -- the words of the song!  Follow the bouncing ball.  If there was a ball...
