Mad Max

And so, the headline early in the day yesterday was, like this from an MSNBC tweet –

“BREAKING: Source reports that Maxwell said she saw no wrongdoing by Trump in conversation with Blanche”

Whatever joy Trump took from helping manufacture that news, it had to be crushing for how quickly the news was shredded apart and in many ways made the story worse.  Yes, it was torn apart by legal experts who meticulously explained how horribly wrong the story w as from a legal standpoint.  But much, much worse for Trump and his MAGOP enablers, it was ripped apart on basic rational, commonplace observation.

While I am certain that Trump World believes headlines such as that “exonerates” him – and I won’t be shocked if he actually says specifically that – the incredibly clear realty at its most basic is that the perjurer, convicted sex trafficker, and convicted sex predator of minors Ghislaine Maxwell doesn't even begin to “exonerate” Trump in most sane fantasy imaginings.  Indeed, all she says is she didn't "see" any wrongdoing by Trump of minors.   Not that others may have seen any.  Or that there aren’t any (or even many) witnesses to his “wrongdoing” willing to testify.  Only that she – a perjurer hoping to get a pardon from a 20-year sentence says she didn’t “see” any wrongdoing.

And the further ludicrous thing about her statement is that, technically, it could even potentially be true, while still not coming close to exonerating Trump.  After all, whether or not Trump did do anything illegal, the easy, obvious reality is that someone – whoever they may be -- who commits "wrongdoing" against minors would most likely do so in private.

So, there would be no witnesses.  Other than, again, y’know – the victims.

Moreover, putting aside accepting with innocent eyes that what perjurer and convicted sexual predator of minors Ghislaine Maxwell says she supposedly didn’t "see" -- it would be really, really great to know precisely what a convicted sexual predator of minors considers "wrongdoing."

It's worth adding for perspective that the convicted sexual predator of minors Ghislaine Maxwell says repeatedly said that she committed no wrongdoing, either.  So, her definition of the word would be fascinating to hear.

For that matter, it’s important to remember, as well, that Trump himself was convicted by a unanimous jury of 34 felonies, adjudicated twice by two different unanimous juries for the equivalence of rape, and found guilty in court of fraud -- and he says that he did nothing wrong.  (Nor has he ever really acknowledged doing anything wrong, ever.)  So, Trump’s own definition of “wrongdoing” seems unique.

And all of this has zero to do with the law, and with a perjurer, convicted sexual predator and convicted sex trafficker of minors in prison for 20 years giving testimony about the person who can pardon her, based on testimony given in private to the personal attorney of the very same person who can pardon her.  That’s a separate matter on ground so shaky it makes quicksand jealous.  No, this is just basic, common sense about testimony that makes no sense, that pretty much anyone can understand – as long as they’re trying.

It was also disappointing, dancing on the edge of disturbing, how little of this was noted in the media’s initial reporting of the unsupported “leak.”  Later, when attorneys were called in to comment and more time was taken to dive in than it just being “BREAKING NEWS!”, the coverage did get into how empty and even troubling this all was for Trump.  And Maxwell.  But the initial headline reporting was much too naively credulous for something so obvious.

Happily, the story transcended the initial headlines.  Because it got shredded as the day went on.

One last thing of note.  Something that doesn’t really need to be said here, because it’s among the most obvious things in the whole story.  But since it is getting pushed in total desperation by those previously outraged by child trafficking and now seem unhinged to defend their cult leader Trump by defending a convicted sex trafficker of minors and convicted sexual predator of children, it seems the best way to finish here –

Convicted sex trafficker of minors and convicted sexual predator of children Ghislaine Maxwell is not a victim.  She is the perpetrator of the crimes.
