The state of Nevada had a bill in their state legislature that dealt with background checks for buying a gun. It had an 86 percent approval among the public -- in a very Red state. The bill passed the state Senate, and just passed the state Assembly. And Governor Brian Sandoval (R-NV), a vice-president hopeful in 2016, just -- vetoed the bill.
Back 150 years ago, in 1863, another Republican, the father of the party, in fact, Abraham Lincoln said in the Gettysburg Address, "Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
Well, it just apparently perished in Nevada.
Although...hmmm, Lincoln might have an out here. Nevada, you see, wasn't admitted to the Union until 1864, a whole year later. So, maybe they don't count, then.
