Life Advice from the Top
Last night on James Corden's late night show, his guest was President Barack Obama. It was an enjoyable conversation that for the most part was fairly light-heard, but they still got into some interesting areas that I hadn't particularly heard covered in other interviews.
At the end, however, they did a feature called "Life Advice." And it was wonderful. In fact, as I was watching, I started jotting down notes to write about the advice that Mr. Obama gave to the questions asked by staff members. But this morning I checked to see if there was a video of the segment, and happily there was, so you can see it yourself.
This wasn't a written sketch, the responses were all off the cuff. And it often got very funny, yet smart, and there was at least some serious answers he got to. What was fun is that we got to see the chiding side of Obama that got written about periodically during his administration, which his competitive basketball-playing side would come out and, as the expression goes among athletes, he'd "talk trash." It was all very polite and deeply good-natured, but -- well, let's just say that the first question, in particular, set the tone as he gave his answer, but then kept building on it. Though other people may have been jokingly wary after that -- honest, it was all very polite, but he made clear he was going to actually answer their questions and not slough them off -- it was much more low-key for the most part.
