Last Week Tonight the Other Night
If you didn't see "Last Week Tonight" with John Oliver on Sunday, his Main Story was on the Supreme Court and its Shadow Docket. And the report was great. Yes, it was very funny, but it also did the best job I've seen describing what the Shadow Docket is, how it works, what its history is, what the problems with it are, why those problems are so substantive and more. And it explains them clearly, interestingly and with specifics -- all the while, as I said, with a lot of humor. Moreover, more than usual, the humor here isn't just funny asides, but rather is often used as examples to undercut defenses of the Shadow Docket.
My only quibble is that near the end, when addressing the question of what can be done, Oliver notes that a Blue Ribbon report on changes was released during the Biden Administration, but why it got little attention. I wish he had mentioned what some of those suggestions were.
