Last Week Tonight Last Night
If you didn't see Last Week Tonight with John Oliver last night, his Main Story was on..."JD Vance"! It's a wonderful, detailed piece on the emptiness, lack of personal foundation, racism and fascism of someone who could (if Trump has to leave office for any reason) become president or could be the MAGOP nominee in 2028.
The show nails most every point, even beyond all those we've written about here. For a while, I didn't think they'd get to the influence that the truly awful, deep fascist Curtis Yarvin holds -- though eventually the show does get to it, somewhat. My only quibble is that they don't go at all into his many name changes -- from being born James Donald Bowman to James David Hamel to James David Vance to eventually "JD Vance." Worth the show bringing up, not because it's an oddity and funny, but because it shows his total lack of foundation for who he is, which informs all the emptiness they bring up.
Still, it's a terrific report -- detailed, spot on and very funny.
