Kind of a Drag

Those with a good memory may recall an odd photo from years past when Rudy Giuliani was mayor of New York City and he dressed up as a woman for some gala event.  (It was the Mayor's Inner Circle Roast in 2000.)  This was a photo that was used by his Republican opponents when he ran for president to show that he was low-life Eastern liberal, not really a Republican at all.

My friend Myles Berkowitz reminding me of that the other day.  But it wasn't the photo he brought up -- no, he said, the photo doesn't do it justice.  There actually was a video, he told me, coming from New York, as Myles does, and remembering it, that was far, far worse.  Yes, the photo looked silly, he said, but the video, when you also hear Giuliani's voice and see everything, makes it all creepy.

Actually, in some ways Myles is wrong.  Not because it isn't creepy -- oh, my, is it ever.  But hey, it's still just a case of "dress up" for a goofy event.  And one man's creepy is another man's...well, okay, it's still creepy.  But that's life.  However, the reason why Myles is somewhat wrong is because the video is even more ghastly than he let on.  And that's because there's another character in the short film -- and it's...are you ready?...Donald Trump!!

Yes, really.  Not an actor playing Trump, but...that's Trump.

And the thing is, it's worse than even that.  Because this 18-year-old video is actually, remarkably topical for today, with Trump sexual abuse thrown in, the whole "grabbing them because when you're famous they'll let you do anything" deal.  Honest.

So, anything thinking, oh, gee, that "grab them because they'll let you" thing was just a spur of the moment faux-locker room thought he had at the time -- nah, this was his "joke" at least 18 years ago.
