And so, on the day of the Pennsylvania Special Election, when Trump wants voters to support his stable administration -- he FIRES his Secretary of State! On Twitter!! Nothing like staying on message for today's election and showing voters you're a very stable genius.
I have read some people suggesting that he did this today specifically to distract from the news that if the Republican candidate Rick Saccone loses -- in a district that Trump had won by 20 points -- the firing of Tillerson won't be covered. It will be covered. Firing the Secretary of State is a major headline today. But 24 hours later, while still be notable story, it will not be the Big Headline is a Republican loses a Congressional race in a Republican district that Trump had won by 20 points. More to the point, firing Tillerson on the DAY of the election will obviously be the major story everywhere today, overwhelming the news, with Sarah Sanders plastered all over the TV being relentlessly questioned. Any hope for Republican Saccone trying to make last-minute news and close the gap, behind by 6 points in the polls, is out the window. To be clear, I have no love for Rex Tillerson. I think he's dangerously emptied the State Department and left critical jobs open, albeit at Trump's bidding. But it's hard not to miss someone who is mature and observant enough to have called Trump an "f*ing moron." Note to The Rachel Maddow Show -- you're going to need a bigger board listing all the Trump administration firings... And just think, only about a week ago, Trump tried to slam the media as "fake" for suggesting there was chaos and more turnover coming in the White House, as he insisted that not only was all well, but that everyone was incredibly happy there... And so, there you have it. Trump fires his Secretary of State by Twitter, without talking to him. This sends such a warm message to any White House employees who remain counting on Trump loyalty promised to them. As they are called in by the Special Counsel to testify.

And the Secretary of State nominee graduated from the same High School as I did. I'm soooo proud. I'd managed to forget that bit of trivia after he was confirmed at CIA; until someone kindly pointed it out on Facebook. His replacement at Langley used to oversee a black site prison where torture routinely took place. I thought Don Don being in Southern California would be the worst news of the day. Apparently, my imagination may not be as robust as I thought it was.
