How to Make a Point in Congress 101
Yesterday, at the Senate hearing with DNI Tulsi Gabbard, she made a stunning comment about how "It is not the intelligence community's responsibility to determine what is and is not an imminent threat."
The next day, this morning, there was a House hearing with the three top intelligence officials, and Democratic Congress Jimmy Gomez of California asked Ms. Gabbard if she stood by her assertion that had astounded observers, or if given the passage of time she wanted to change anything he said the day before. She held her ground, and stood by her earlier comment. This led Rep. Gomez to to turn to CIA Director John Ratcliffe and ask if he agreed with Gabbard.
"The president is the Commander-in-Chief and gets to make a decision about what's an imminent threat --" Ratcliffe began, but that's when Rep. Gomez and tried to get his question in and reclaim his time, but Ratcliffe talked over him.
Eventually, Rep. Gomez had a chance to speak. And for the next two minutes, he was low-key, polite, but clearly angry and was absolutely wonderful in the blunt, detailed and ultimately scathing points he made. Showing that he really knew what he was talking about, as Trump officials tried to flim-flam and obfuscate everyone. Leading to him making a superb point that I haven't heard anyone else address, and which even sort of had Tulsi Gabbard every-so-slightly nodding.
He's not eloquent, just polite, outraged and really smart. This is how it's done.
