How I Met Your Cast

How I Met Your Mother ended its 9-year run last night, and I thought was one of the most fascinating last episodes of a series I’ve ever seen -- which fits in with what I've been telling people for years about how clever and inventive the writing is.  Without going into any details, the finale actually had twists and surprises, and mixed funny with sad, and ended very satisfyingly, if unexpectedly.  Of course I suspect some fans will be unhappy with some of the surprises -- but then, when you have 30 million viewers, if even 10% are unhappy that's three million people.  And unhappy people tend to be the most publicly vocal.  For the most part, though, I think most will be very pleased with the substantive nature of it all.

(There were a couple of technically fun things, having nothing to do with the story.  Throughout the series, the narrator from the future, telling the story to his two kids has been played by Bob Saget as the main character 15 years or so from now.  For the first time, Josh Radnor played himself and did the narration.  And for the first time, the two kids who have been silently listening for nine years except for saying something like, “Dad!”, actually get dialogue.)

Anyway, a very smart, clever, inventive show, and I am not surprised that the finale was all that.

And speaking of How I Met Your Mother,  I mentioned a couple days ago how the cast was on Inside the Actors Studio last week.  For thems what would have liked to have seen it, but missed the broadcast -- here 'tis, the whole thing.

Even putting up with James Lipton, it's much fun.
