Hanks for the Memories

Last year, Tom Hanks was appearing on a British chat show, when the host asked him if he wouldn't mind re-creating one of his iconic moments from movies.  They brought out a big "floor piano," and Hanks jumped in (literally) to do his best with the "Heart and Soul/Chopsticks" scene from Big.  As it happened, Sandra Bullock was a guest on the same show, and later on did her best to participate.

It's hard to tell how much Hanks knew about this beforehand.  My guess is that it's not unlikely that they would have at least checked first, rather than go to the trouble of getting the floor piano and putting Hanks in the position of begging off.  However, he certainly doesn't appear to have prepared a great deal -- so either he didn't know, or just said "fine" and chose let the moment go as unplanned as possible.

This comes from The Jonathon Ross Show.  I'm no fan of the fellow.  He does an okay job, but I much prefer Graham Norton who seems to be having a wonderful time, and tries to be inventive.  Ross tends to strike me was a bit smarmy and more interested in himself than his guests.  In fact, he and Russell Brand were suspended by the BBC a couple of years ago from a really obnoxious -- and smarmy -- phone prank on a beloved British actor Andrew Sachs (best known for playing 'Manuel' in Fawlty Towers) about, of all things, Sach's granddaughter.

But that's that.  And this is Tom Hanks.  Far better....
