Good as Goldstein
Just a quick word that the oft-mentioned here (though not oft enough) Shelly Goldstein performed earlier this week at Le Crazy Coqs cabaret in London, and such a thing deserves mention. This is a high-end quality place, and it was her first appearance there. Following her there this month are such people like Brent Barrett (Broadway star of Grand Hotel, the revival of Annie Get Your Gun and Chicago, among others), actress Linda Purl, and Liz Callaway, one of the top cabaret performers around.
The Lady Shellington did her show, "One Fine Day: The Groovy Girls of the '60s." For what it's worth, she is one groovy girl herself. (Besides being a wonderful singer, she's also a terrific screenwriters, and so -- unlike most cabaret acts -- writes all of her own material. Just just the patter, but the song parodies which are mixed in among her straight-forward songs.)
Here's a video of one of Shelly's parodies, "The Middle Age of Aquarius."
