Go West Side, Young Man

When The Ed Sullivan Show would present numbers from Broadway musicals, they often wouldn’t just have the stars come on to sing a song, but rather would present long sequences with the original cast in costume and with full sets.  Moments that would otherwise be lost.  And here’s an absolute gem in that vein, from 1958 – probably the most famous scene from West Side Story, one of legendary shows in Broadway history, with the original leads, Carol Lawrence and Larry Kert.  This is not just them singing “Tonight,” but the full balcony scene leading up to the song, and the dialogue in between.  It's wonderful.
