Gilbert
This is one of the classic sequences on Hollywood Squares, and it centers on Gilbert Gottfried, so the video has been making the rounds the past week. He's the remaining "square" that the two contestants need to win the game.
I was please by how many questions I actually knew. But its his fake "joke answer" at the 1:30 mark about Phileas Fogg and Nellie Bly that is his gem. (I read a biography of the real-life journalist Nelly Bly a few years back, so it was nice to see her included.)
By the way, I’ve been trying to find the Gilbert Gottfried documentary Gilbert for a couple years, and last night did a search and found that it was available on the Peacock streaming service for free. It does have ads -- but I was surprised how limited they were, in fact only 2-1/2 minutes of ads shown together near the beginning and that was it.
It was very good. It's a balance of his crude, outgoing humor onstage, and his deep shyness and sweet affection for his wife and little children at home, as well as for his two sisters. And his cheapness and slight hoarder tendencies, kept slightly in check by his wife. I only wished I’d found the documentary when I’d been searching it before he passed away, so I could have watched it without being wistful. But watching it now did add a high level of poignancy. And much better late than never.
