From the "With Friends Like These…" File
Now that the lawyer for one of Trump’s co-defendants has admitted to being who released video excerpts of the proffers made by three Trump lawyers who pled guilty and flipped, it was only a matter of time before it achieved at least one if the lawyer’s goals -- bringing out the Trump Davidians to try to undermine the testimony.
But two stood out the most for me, in almost hilarious ways how blind they were to what they were saying, causing more damage for Trump in their attempted-defense than they realized. But then, being blind to reality is one of the core requirements for being in a cult.
First, I just dearly love that former Fox Business producer Breanna Morello, who quit the network over its COVID vaccine mandate (and now has a podcast on the far-right platform Rumble), calls Jenna Ellis a "fraud" for having said the election was rigged, posting Ellis's earlier statements, but now (under oath, BTW) says it wasn't.
The problem with attempt at defending Trump is that…well, er, no, what she’s describing is not fraud...it is a crime -- which is specifically why Jenna Ellis got indicted!!
So, a big, shout-out thanks to Ms. Morello for making that clear with the evidence she posted.
But even better than Ms. Morello's "outrage" at Jenna Ellis flipping was former NY Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, who’d been an adviser to Trump’s legal team – not a great credential these days, so you probably have an idea what’s coming -- before getting convicted. But then pardoned by his rescuer. Mr. Kerik tried to come to Trump's defense by writing that "I was on the legal team, and I spoke to Jenna daily, and not once, EVER, did she tell me what she claims to have told the president, or about a conversation with @DanScavino!" And then he adds -- posting screenshots of Jenna Ellis’s earlier tweets -- that the tweet "clearly contradicts her proffer statement."
Here's the problem – the many problems – what that.
1. The fact that Ms. Ellis didn't tell Bernard Kerik something is NOT actually considered any sort of evidence that even remotely contradicts what she says she did tell others. (A person, after all, is free to not tell everything to everyone, even if you are Bernard Kerik. Who knows, maybe she thought a convicted felon like Kerrik might use it to try to undermine her, or would slam her publicly...)
2. What Jenna Ellis said in her proffer was...Sworn Under Oath at Risk of Perjury. I would assume that Bernard Kerik would know this, being an adviser to Trump’s legal team. But then, he wasn’t a lawyer himself, so it’s hard to know where the standards lie.
3. The fact that Ellis was involved with a fraud, something she has admitted to under oath -- which Mr. Kerik very kindly supports by posting several of her fraudulent tweets -- is specifically (and "clearly") why she was indicted. And then flipped, pleading guilty, to stay out of jail, since the Justice Dept. "clearly" has a lot more evidence of her fraud that Mr. Kerik kindly (if unwittingly) provides.
So, let us summarize.
The end result of all this is that the only complaint of these “critics” against three Trump attorneys who pled guilty and flipped is that – one of them, Jenna Ellis, said something different before she later swore under oath that she lied, which is precisely why she was indicted and pled guilty. And these critics kindly provided evidence of some of those earlier lies. Though what is notable in their attempted-criticism of her is that they only criticized her and offered zero complaints against Trump attorneys Sydney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro who also pled guilty, letting their sworn testimony against Trump stand. Most likely, the only reasonable conclusion that can be drawn, because they couldn’t think of anything to complain about that even made less sense than their complains against Jenna Ellis. And so what's left is that their silence of the other two is deafening. It's the equivalent of someone laying out dozen complaint against you, and you only refute one. It sort of shines a big klieg light on the other 11.
So, cool.
As the saying goes, thanks for playing.
