Eydie Gorme in Memorium

Eydie Gorme passed away today at the age of 84.  I thought that in memory, I'd link to an article here that I wrote about a song she and her husband Steve Lawrence recorded, "Hallelujah," but under assumed names, "Parker and Penny," because they believed that radio stations would play a single with their names attached.

In 1968, Eydie and Steve also starred in a Broadway musical together, Golden Rainbow, about a hotel/casino in Las Vegas, with a score by Walter Marks.  It wasn't a particular hit, though did have a respectable run of 383 performances, almost a year.  This is a medley of two songs from the show, when the performers co-hosted the Hollywood Palace TV program the year in November, 1967.  She sings the first number, "How Could I Be So Wrong," and he then follows with the big breakout hit that came from the show, recorded by Sammy Davis Jr., that reached #11 on the charts.  One of those big, mega-power ballad extravaganzas.
