Earth to GOP, This is Ground Control, Come in, Please...

Every once in a while, I’ve written about how the base of the Republican is insane.  Not “cute insane,” or saying “insane” but just meaning outlandish or loopy.  But – insane.  Literally insane.

By the way, to be clear – and fair, I do not include the base believing Trump is competent and a messenger from God as being literally insane.  That’s more delusional, largely a cult-like response to their fevered hopes.  It’s almost quaint in comparison to the actual, literal insanity I’m referring to.

When you believe that the dead JFK Jr. is coming back to life, and further, that he will be Trump’s running mate, that “literally insane” is what I mean.

Or that you actually, truly, really believe that Anderson Cooper eats babies.  That insane, literally.

That is the GOP hard-cord base.  Literally insane.

And to show how literally insane I think the GOP base is – I don’t even include their latest conspiracy theory as evidence of actual insanity, no matter how truly loon-filled crazy it is.  That’s how literally insane the GOP base is.

The GOP conspiracy theory is that the John Fetterman in the U.S. Senate is a body double.

Yes, they actually believe that.   And the remarkable thing is that by GOP standards, bringing dead people back to life and eating babies, this isn't literally insane.  Just sick and delusional.

Yes, that's how literally insane the GOP base is: believing that John Fetterman in the Senate is a body double is just normal disturbed for them.

But, of course, they have their “proof.”  They have their videos and photos and explanations and reasons and diagrams with interconnecting lines criss-crossing to vectors that can be best decoded when wearing your tin foil hat.  They point to the fact that the “John Fetterman” we see now is talking coherently, not like the real John Fetterman who had a stroke 16 months ago and had some difficulty – never mind the magic of the human body and science that it’s common for stroke survivors to go through physical therapy and regain their full speech, most-especially after 16 months.

(Fun fact: I had lunch just yesterday with a friend who had a stroke about a year ago.  We discussed politics in great detail, and anyone listening in would have had absolutely no idea he had a stroke.  Though, a Republican might have thought he was John Fetterman.)

Never mind, too, that finding a perfect body double for John Fetterman – at 6’8” and 270 pounds – would be an almost unimaginable task.  Like believing that Jared Kushner did nothing for Saudia Arabia for them to give him $2 billion.

And never mind that thinking John Fet…no, enough of that.  I’m not going to go into any more reasons explaining why it’s delusional to think that Sen. John Fetterman is a body double.  That's playing the fool's game and giving it credence.  If you don’t get the lunacy at the mere description, you’re a member of the club.  Moreover, it’s beside the point.

The point is that that’s today’s Republican Party.  Its base seems unwilling to accept almost anything – anything – that goes against them getting their way about whatever they want.  And they will tie themselves into the most convoluted knots to insist upon it to the ends of the earth.  Trump didn’t lose, the election was stolen.  Kari Lake didn’t lose the Arizona governor’s race, it was stolen.  If a Democrat wins the Wisconsin Supreme Court election, impeach her.  If Joe Biden wins the presidency, impeach him.  If the Supreme Court tells Alabama to re-draw their illegal congressional district maps, the state ignores it.  If Lauren Boebert vapes, takes flash photos, sings in the theater and gropes her partner, it’s the fault (she says) of Democrats.  And John Fetterman isn’t really John Fetterman, but a body double.

And the list goes on and on and on and on…

All this, from the Party of Personal Responsibility.  (sic)

There are too many adjectives to choose from.  Pathetic, reprehensible, shameful, sad, but none of it do the situation justice, in part because it colored with racism, sexism and fascism.  And more.

The bottom line is that the base of the Republican Party is literally insane, and it’s a condition that has infected the rest of the party which has become delusional and unwilling to accept reality when it doesn’t go their way.

Or to put it another way, when claiming that 6’8”, 270-pound John Fetterman is a body double isn’t even close to the most lunatic thing your base believes, then your party has long-since spiraled out of control into a Black Hole, sucking you away from the reality of Earth.

And for goodness sake, once and for all, this is John Fetterman!!  And it doesn't change no matter what -- in his sartorial splendor -- he's wearing.  It's John Fetterman.
