Do Re Them, Back Again
This is a video I posted back in 2017. I was scrolling back through old articles the other day, looking for something else entirely, and came across this which I’d totally forgotten about. The video was so wonderful, that I had to repost it. In fact, the other video I mention in the original piece, a wedding video, is itself so wonderful, and if you haven’t seen it – or haven't seen it in a long time – check it out at the link below. Anyway, what I wrote at the time was –
Last week I posted a home video of Lin-Manuel Miranda's wedding to his wife Vanessa, a rousing surprise production of the song, "To Life," from Fiddler on the Roof. [You can find it here.] Here's another Miranda Family home movie, of sorts.
This is listed on the EllenTube site as a "home movie," and it sort of is. But it looks more like a little production made in conjunction with the Ellen show, designed for posting on YouTube under the heading of "EllenTube." The extended Miranda clan was on a European holiday, and as part of that trip, they apparently took the popular "Sound of Music Tour," visiting sites popularized in the Oscar-winning film. And while doing that, the family performed the song "Do Re Mi" – in its entirety -- edited together, with father Luis (a political consultant) handling the lead.
Whether or not this should "officially" count as a home movie is a matter of perception, perhaps. But it's nonetheless a lot of fun, however you want to define it.
