Day of the Hunter
For the past three years, the MAGOPs in Congress have been conducting investigations trying to find evidence to impeach President Biden. So far, they have come up with nothing. They have also been conducting investigations into President Biden and his son Hunter, hoping to find evidence of illegal business between the two in China and with the Ukraine oil company Burisma. So, far, they have come up with nothing.
But finally, after all their effort, private citizen Hunter Biden was convicted of illegally owning a gun when addicted to drugs.
Impressive! Yes, it's just like Trump's 34 felonies to steal the presidential election.
Okay, in fairness, MAGOPs in Congress didn’t themselves come up with the evidence and prosecution, that was the Department of Justice under President Biden, but still, it counts. Sort of. And there’s still a income tax evasion trial yet to come.
The Department of Justice under President Biden. You know, that sham branch of government that apparently is rigged to only indict Republicans. That just convicted the son of the Democratic President of the United States. And is currently in court trying sitting-Democratic U.S. Senator Robert Menendez. And has indicted sitting-Democratic U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar. And is investigating sitting-Democratic U.S. Congresswoman Cori Bush. But all that’s a separate issue, and why let reality get in the way of a story anyway.
The additional issue is not whether Hunter Biden should have been convicted. He should have been. The issue is whether he should have been indicted in the first place. After all, most people under the same conditions are not indicted, unless there is some additional crime involved. But then, in fairness, most people don’t have the same name as the U.S. President.
And even with all that, you do not hear President Biden – or any Democrats – crying out that this was a “sham trial” and that it was “rigged, or slamming the judge and his children, and the prosecutors and the jury. Nor do you hear President Biden say that he is going to pardon his son. Actually, what you hear is the president say that he is not going to pardon him.
What you also don’t hear is Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), chairman of the House Weaponization of Government sub-committee say that he will be launching an investigation into the use of the Justice Department to indict a private citizen who is the son of the President of the United States.
Nor do you hear Rep. James Comer (R-KY), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, say that his committee will be investigating former White House liaison Jared Kushner who received $2 billion from Saudi Arabia or former White House advisor Ivanka Trump who was given 41 trademarks from China for free. No, private citizen Hunter Biden and his illegal gun ownership when addicted is effort enough, for now.
By the way, lest it get overlooked, not just the Attorney General who serves under the president who appointed him, but a U.S. President himself has the right to stop an investigation. And President Biden did not do that -- even an investigation that convicted his only living son.
What is hopeful is that most undecided independent voters will see the clear difference between how Trump and the MAGOP reacted to the trial and conviction of their party leader, trying to undermine the U.S. justice system – and how President Biden and Democrats reacted to the trial and conviction of the son of their party leader, giving full support to the U.S. justice system and the rule of law.
One other thing leaps out in all this, which also plays into how today’s Republican Party looks at the justice system. And the rule of law.
That's because the reaction from MAGOP officials in Congress went before cameras to claim this conviction was further evidence of the "Biden Crime Family" (tm). Just a reminder that private citizen Hunter Biden was convicted of lying on a document to buy a gun when he was a drug addict. If that was evidence of a "crime family," American law enforcement would be on Easy Street.
And going even further, the far right reaction shows how they look at pretty much anything, which is conspiratorial and lunatic. That’s because the reaction from much of the extremist MAGOP base is, bizarrely, belief that the conviction of Hunter Biden actually shows (to them) that the justice system is…rigged. Some believe the verdict was fixed because President Biden wanted a conviction of his son so that he could claim that there wasn’t a “two-tier system of justice” and allow him to keep going after Trump. (Yes, really.) Others believe that the verdict was fixed because President Biden wanted a conviction of his son so that it would distract attention from his own legal troubles – which are non-existent. (Yes, really.)
By the way, none of these people cried this out when Hunter Biden was indicted. Rather, they all cheered and celebrated. It’s just, weirdly, and disingenuously, the conviction that now seems to vex them and gets their conspiracy gene to kick in. But then, that’s how conspiracy genes work.
P.S. Weird too is that the MAGOP -- which is so deeply supportive of the NRA and gun rights -- has gotten it's one court victory on the back of someone who was convicted of illegal gun registration. An issue they're against entirely in the first place!
So, if you’re keeping score, MAGOPs believe the trial was “rigged” because Hunter Biden was convicted. And it is a certainty that they would have cried out that the trial was "rigged" if Hunter Biden had been acquitted.
Life is so much easier when you can be outraged at whatever happens. Heads you win, tails you win. And that’s the byproduct of your party leaders trying to undermine the U.S. justice system and being convinced that it’s all supposedly rigged. Unless you win.
For most everyone else, undecided independent voters included, it seems hopeful, and likely, that they all understand that not only was the court decision proper, and unfair that the indictment was made, but that President Biden and Democrats’ reaction to it all was in the best interests of supporting democracy.
