But His Emails...!!
The Republicans have been desperately trying to make a Big Deal about some things in the emails of Dr. Anthony Fauci that have been released publicly. I admit to not paying close attention to this or even particularly random attention because I don't consider myself an idiot.
I've heard some small discussion of it on the news, but it all pretty much confirms what I already knew about things Dr. Fauci has said for over a year -- and what I know about doctors and research. The was a new version of the coronavirus, so everything, particularly in the earliest days, were based on the little information we had and learning from that and building on it. And while no one's track record was perfect, nor could they be with something new that was always evolving and even mutating, Dr. Fauci's was seriously impressive. As it has been for 40 years.
Oh, and one other thing -- it's not just that I knew about what Dr. Fauci has said for over a years, but I know know all the things that his boss has said during that same period. And what he's done. And what he said in private to Bob Woodward when the journalist interviewed him for his book. So, we know that Trump was aware from the earliest days that COVID-19 was deadly dangerous. In fact, given that he got information from the intelligence services first, it's likely that he knew much even before Dr. Fauci did. And we know how Trump said over a year ago that this would all go away soon like a "miracle." And that it was like the flu. And that you should consider driving bleach and using U.V. rays. And that you didn't have to use masks. And that people could gather in mass groups. And on and on and on and on. And it's been estimated that 400,000 Americans may have died unnecessarily because of Trump's actions.
So, to hear Republicans desperately trying to make a Big Deal about anything in Dr. Fauci's emails -- let alone to make make even the tiniest thing from his emails -- is not only empty, disingenuous, intentionally distracting and a very fascist thing to do, trying to undermine other figures of authority...but it also shows how frightened they are of reality and have absolutely nothing to run on.
If you are a political party and are trying to build issues for the mid-terms, if the best you can do is try to convince Americans that Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the most trusted and admired men in America for his known efforts to save the country through science against a boss contradicting him at almost every step -- and a 40-year career doing so -- is an underlying problem with the pandemic, all it does is shine the line all the brighter on Trump, and show that your bag of issues is totally empty.
It also raises the response -- fine, you want to try to make an issue of Dr. Fauci's private correspondence on the pandemic...let's see you put on your big boy pants and release the very same for Trump.
It won't happen.
And I will even avoid the easy cheap shot quip of saying that it won't happen even if Trump's big boy pants are pull-ups without a zipper. This doesn't need an easy cheap shot. Because it's too pathetic and shows how vulnerable and desperate Republicans are all on their own.
