Bob Sledding 2026

We watch the Winter Olympics throughout most of the day so that you don't have to.

Yes, Bobsledding is officially back.  Not just the preview on Wednesday.  And yes, I know that the Games officially open in Milan on Friday night with the Opening Ceremonies -- but competition has actually already begun.

There was an exciting curling match this afternoon between Canada and the home country Italy.  ("Exciting," to be clear, because it was the first official competition of the Games this year I got to watch!!  Not because of the match itself, of course.  But there was some very nice sweeping.)  For those keeping score, Canada won 7-2 in the preliminary round.

And the U.S. women's hockey team took on Czechia, also in a preliminary round.  I like women's hockey -- the skating isn't at as blistering a pace and is played with more finesse than the men's explosive power game.  I like both, but the enjoyable thing about this is it keeps the action in clear focus.  And it's at a high quality.  The USA team took a 5-1 lead with 15 minutes to go in the game, and held on to finish that way for the win.

There was a Canada-Finland game schedule right before this, but the Finnish women came down with 13 cases of a virus, so the game was postponed.  Hopefully that won't spread through the entire Finnish delegation.  (Cheap Shot Alert:  No word if Finland goes by the same vaccine protocol as Denmark, which RKjr is so fond of emulating.)

I also want to bring up a Media Alert.  That's because on Friday -- before the Opening Ceremonies -- the Team Figure Skating competition begins.  And the wonderful Alysa Liu, who I profiled here the other day, is going to be skating the ladies short program for the team.  The broadcast she's scheduled to be on at 10:00 AM West Coast time -- so, I assume that will be 1:00 PM in the East -- airing on NBC.  (It repeats at 4:35 PM PT, 7:35 in the East on the USA Network.  In West L.A. on Spectrum, that's Channel 58.)  So, if you're not going to be around, set the DVR.
