Better Off Ed
I've decided that I didn't like calling these clips from The Ed Sullivan Show "Sullivan's Travails." Though a perfectly proper usage of the word "travails" as meaning as meaning the use of physical energy or hard work, I think too often it has the implication of difficult work. So, instead, for the time being we're going in this direction.
Anyway, after posting that wonderful version of "Hello, Dolly!" from the show Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, I came across this rendition of the song by the man who had the worldwide massive hit with it, Louis Armstrong, singing it on the Ed Sullivan Show. I've posted some other versions of Satchmo singing it, but those have been during a performance and filmed a bit haphazardly (albeit generally fairly well), and this is the first I've come across of him singing the song on a TV show. It's a bit off-beat staging, though understandable.
The other nice thing about this version is that it comes from 1964, when the musical opened and the song was released, so it's at the height of its popularity. That's the same year when I saw him at the Ravinia Music Festival and he sang six encores of the number.
So, Hello, again. Promise you'll never go away...
