Avalanche!!!
I’ve long written that the problems for Trump will only get worse, because he not only has surrounded himself with unqualified incompetents who don’t have the skillset to help him out of his problems, but in many cases they are the ones who caused the problems, and whose only skills are to yes “yes” to him. And further, indeed more problematic, Trump has dementia which is degenerative.
And the more problems that Trump has, the more stressed and out of control we see him get. Trump is someone who is so insecure that he wears a hat that says, “Trump has been right about everyone.” Honestly, what kind of person do you know who does that??!! So, when he has problems, when he loses court cases, when he’s shown to be wrong, it always sets Trump into a spiral. And when one has dementia, and it’s worsened, it makes things even more troubling for even, because he can’t seem to focus on resolving things, only the problems. And so all he can do, without the help of others, and with his dementia, is default to do what he knows and has always done, trained by Joe McCarthy’s lawyer Roy Cohn – create distractions.
And right now, on top of rising inflation, tariffs, a dropping stock market from economic insecurity, perhaps the biggest problem Trump is facing – because it seems to be a deeply personal one – is the Epstein files.
The problem is, the more distractions Trump creates, the more problems he causes for himself. And it all because a vicious cycle downward.
Trump froze funding on colleges as a distraction. And now the courts have said, no, that’s illegal.
Trump deported Venezuelans under the Enemies Act as a distraction. And now, the courts have said, no, that’s illegal.
Trump sent the military into cities as a distraction. And not only have we seen cities rise up with court challenges and the public push back in mass protests, but now the courts have said, no, that’s illegal.
Trump has happily supported the distractions of Robert Kennedy Junior, and he himself has criticized the COVID vaccine, as a distraction. And the head of the CDC was fired, as a distraction. But four top CDC officials resigned in protest, 1,000 members of the CDC signed a letter of protest calling for Kennedy Junior to resign, a crazed gunman shot up a CDC office and killed a policeman, there’s the first measles outbreak in 30 years, children have died from measles, and there’s an increase of COVID. But wait -- as TV hucksters like to say -- there's more! Because taking Trump and anti-vax Kennedy Junior's lead, the state of Florida yesterday announced they were no longer mandating any vaccines for schoolchildren. ANY! The big problem with this, as far as distractions go, is that viruses are infectious -- and worse, they don't honor borders. Which is an even worse problem today when the Democratic Republic of Congo just announced a new outbreak of the Ebola virus with 28 suspected cases and 15 deaths. Because, you see, distractions have consequences.
Trump had Pete Hegseth bomb a Venezuelan boat off the coast of Venezuela, claiming it was a drug boat headed for the United States, as a distraction. But the boat was 1,000 miles from the U.S. and evidence has been offered to show who the people on the boat actually were or what was actually on the boat or where it was headed – and even it was all Trump said, it was still risks being considered an unsupportable crime or even act of war.
Trump added a 50% tariff on India, the largest democracy in the world and an ally, as a distraction. And for that and other reasons so offended the president of India that he went off to meet with Putin of Russia and Xi of China, creating a major world security issue.
Trump nominated the cartoonish Fox TV host Jeanine Pirro to be a U.S. Attorney, knowing that her existence on earth is largely a distraction. And already, within months, she’s had Grand Juries reject five of her attempts to get an indictment – when many prosecutors go through a career having zero indictments rejected.
And more. And more. And more. These are all terrible things for the United States. But they are also terrible things for Trump. These are the distractions he’s creating from the Epstein files and inflation and tariffs – and they are all creating worse problems for Trump. And focus on the Epstein files, inflation and tariffs and more remain.
And Trump has no one around him to help. And has dementia, which is degenerative.
I don’t know how long it will take for the CDC and Health & Human Services and Robert Kennedy Junior problems to kick in with the public. I don’t think most people pay close attention to such things in the news and at most (right now) it’s likely “just” firings and resignations to most of the public, but eventually it won’t be able to be avoided. It’s too widespread and too important. Ultimately, people take health incredibly seriously. This is literally life and death to everyone.
But Kennedy Junior is scheduled to be question by the Senate on Friday. And perhaps the most important MAGOP senator on health issues, Dr. Bill Cassidy – whose vote in support of Kennedy Junior helped confirm him – has just spoken out that a major HHS meeting should be delayed out of concern for its lack of expertise. And MAGOP senator Susan Colllins has just called for oversight on the firing of the director of the CDC. So, the Kennedy Junior distraction may be about to hit the big time.
And that’s just this one problem.
Now, throw in all the rest – inflation, tariffs, ICE arrests, jobs, Epstein and on and on. And "it will get worse" is not hyperbole. Because then came the CDC firings and resignations. And...and...and the security breach of 300 million Social Security numbers. Which literally affects everyone. Caused by Elon Musk and DOGE. And five losses in court. And blowing up a Venezuelan boat off the coast of Venezuela. And an increase of COVID. And Chicago pushing back on the military being sent there, which has just caused Trump to apparently back off a bit. And the major rally of Epstein victims outside Congress.
And it will only get worse “because…” Because Trump is surrounded with unqualified incompetents And he has dementia which is degenerative.
I could be wrong about all this, of course. I'm not remotely prescient. But these are at least my reasons and are specific. If others disagree and say that they just don't trust Trump and what he might do, that's a completely understandable position. It's just not a very substantive one. And doesn't contradict anything I say here. I don't trust Trump either, and know there is a mad universe of fascist, devastating things he'd like to do. It's just that doing them is the tough part. For all these reasons. And once you create problems for yourself without resolution, they tend to feed on themselves. And snowball.
The problems Trump is causing and will continue to causes will be devastating to the country. But they are already harming Trump himself and as they build will be devastating to him, as well. It's Newton's Third Law of Motion: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Keep in mind, further, this avalanche of Trump's problems aren’t pouring down on someone popular with the public. His starting point right now is just a devastating 38% approval. That means he no longer gets the benefit of the doubt.
It’s like magicians not wanting to repeat tricks because the more you see them, the more the audience has a chance to see what they’re doing. And so they like to get off the stage before the public can find them out. The problem for Trump is that people had four years away from Trump, time to forget about why he left office with a 34% approval and see another person in the job. But as much as President Biden’s approval was low, people nonetheless saw him in the job, saw the person he was, in contrast to Trump. And then Trump got back on the stage. With his same old, tired tricks. And now four years older, 79, with worsening dementia. And the only assistants he could get for his act were people who’d never worked on stage or in a magic act before.
He still has support. He still has power. But he’s 79, has major political problems all around him and crashing down on him, creates additional problems with his distraction, doesn’t have anyone competent to help him, and he has dementia which is degenerative. And the starting point is a 38% approval. Only seven months into the job.
It’s not going to get better for him.
Trump is burying himself under an ongoing avalanche. And only has a plastic fork to help him dig his way out.
