Attention Target Shoppers

And so it begins.
I have a bet with a lawyer friend. He thinks Trump will be indicted as early as Friday – my guess is next week. But that’s all a toss of the coin, the point being it’s imminent, down to days. And I won’t be surprised to lose the bet.
One question is – now that there is a target letter -- whether Fani Willis will announce her indictments in Georgia before Jack Smith’s official indictment comes down. I would think she’ll wait, but I don’t know what the “etiquette” is on that.
I’m a little surprised others haven’t also (apparently) gotten target letters because clearly Trump didn’t act on his own. And so, since he’s on the verge of being indicted, others are involved with the same crimes. I supposed it’s possible that Jack Smith wants Trump’s target letter and the coming-indictment to stand alone, not crowded by others. I have to believe that other target letters are coming. Perhaps he had Trump’s indictment prepared first, but not the others, and so he wanted to get the target letter in first before Fani Willis was able to make her indictments. Though I’d think all of Jack Smith’s potential target letters would overlap on so many areas. Not a concern at all, just a little bit surprised.
Also notable is that when the indictment comes down, it will be for Trump being charged in Washington, D.C., which is is such a refreshing change from Florida and Judge Cannon.
(Attorney Renato Menotti, who I like, commented that this target letter/indictment lessens most concerns about whether Judge Cannon delays her trial.)
I was quite taken by the general response from Republican officials, all of whom condemned the indictment as irresponsible and having no merit, just a political effort by Democrats to go after their party’s leading opponent.
Mind you, what this “outrage” misses is that Trump hasn’t actually been indicted yet, and they have absolutely no idea what the charges will be in the indictment when it finally does come. And further, this “outrage” comes from the party that is currently, actively holding hearings investigating President Biden, their party’s leading opponent. The only difference is that the Department of Justice is independent of the White House, and the Special Counsel (who sent the target letter) is independent of the DOJ – while the Republicans in Congress are themselves directly doing their investigation.
But why quibble about inconvenient realities?
Also what leaps out from the Republican “outrage” at someone receiving a legal target letter from an independent investigation for trying to overthrow the government is that every one of these Republicans “outraged” were totally silent the day before when the news report broke about Trump’s literally-fascist plans for undermining democracy by expanding White House power to an autocratic level if he’s elected.
Dayenu.
(Which means "It would have been enough.")
But if that wasn’t enough, Michigan added to it by indicting 16 people for participating in a fake elector scheme. That good on its own, but we’ll see if the investigation ties in with any GOP or White House officials, too. From all we’ve seen on the news, it certainly seems that the fake elector schemes were not random in the slightest, but all coordinated through some in the White House.
Dayenu.
And there's still the classified documents federal indictment.
And the Manhattan D.A. indictment.
And the likely Georgia state indictment.
And being found liable for sexual assault.
And a second E. Jean Carroll assault defamation case.
And...watch this space.
