Another New Rainbow
I had another thing all set for tonight, but then I saw the new song parody from Randy Rainbow and I put everything aside. It's not just because tonight is the first evening of the Democratic VIrtual Convention, or because the song is a huge amount of fun -- both of which are true and valid -- but because the song choice and title are just so totally great. Yes, just that alone. The moment Randy Rainbow turns around, and I saw how he was dressed, as only the first chords of music played, I burst out laughing and knew what he was going to do. And then the next bars of introduction played, and it was all confirmed.
The lyrics aren't his best, though they're a lot of fun. And it's clear how much fun he himself is having with them, because his version goes on for several verses longer than the actual song its based on. The production value is reasonably elaborate in parts, with a couple of good background jokes, and in fact the production is a lot of the point and fun here.
But mainly, for me, it's still the song and title. It's so clever of him, and as you're listening, you realized how almost brain-dead obvious the choice was. "Of course!!" you'll find yourself thinking.
We'll get to today's piece tomorrow. For now, we'll head over the Rainbow. (No, it's not that song.) This graphic may give it away for some, but I didn't see the graphic. For me, it opened up on Joe Biden at the podium.
Go forth...
