And This Was Just the Start of Trump’s Weak

I was planning to write on something else for today, but then I woke up on Sunday to a barrage of terrible news headlines for Trump – and the day got worse for him, so I figured that that had to take precedent.

It began, as I said, with terrible Trump headlines.  Some, sadly reflect on problems the U.S. will face, but many don’t, and only are problems for Trump and the MAGOP.  Just from the RawStory home page alone –

"'Seek help': Trump decimated as NY Times editorial board pulls no punches"

"Trump’s 'revealing remarks' just set US on path to total collapse: analysis"

"These bumbling clowns were so inept Iran's hardliners could barely keep straight faces" [on U.S. negotiators]

"Trump booed at UFC event as Vance announces Iran negotiations have failed"

"White House hypes Trump birthday party as Iran crisis goes into freefall"

"‘It’s war’: Trump ally’s ex-wife vows to go scorched earth on Melania amid Epstein claims"

My first thought when seeing all these headlines in one place -- and knowing Trump's total aversion to bad news -- was:  “Who’s going to tell him?”

By the way, this latter headline relates to this potentially damning story about Amanda Ungaro -- an intimate to the Trump circle, who is  a former Brazilian model, former ambassador to the United Nations and is the ex-wife of Paolo Zampolli, Trump’s special envoy and longtime friend. The article notes that last month the New York Times reported  that Paolo Zampolli “successfully pushed Trump in 2025 to deport Ungaro, then his ex-wife.”  And she is now “vowing revenge”.

Also, in regards to the UFC story, in fairness most of the Ultimate Fighting Championship crowd cheered Trump, however what’s got the most damning comments about it on social was that – during a war and negotiations to end it – what in the world was Trump doing going to a UFC match??

Then there was the news that the effort by “JD Vance” as lead negotiator for Trump against Iran fell apart after just 21 hours.  This came with assistance from the crackerjack tag team of Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, whose joint negotiating credentials of total inexperience are "son-in-law and real estate investor".  The failure is especially pesky when you've repeatedly declared victory but can't establish what that means.

But then, the news got even worse on Sunday when CBS released the results of their new poll.  And what stood most – beyond even the overall approval down to 39 points, or terrible individual approval on most issues, especially Trump’s Iran War – is that for one of his core bases – white, non-college educated voters, the bottom has fallen out of this group.  A year ago, in February, 2025, Trump’s support with this essential group had already dropped to +36 points (68-32%), but it’s now plummeted to negative -- 48-52%.  Yes, minus-4 points.  Which is a massive collapse in one year of 40 points!

Given that Trump is down enormously in other groups critical to his base, this obviously is deeply problematic for him and MAGOPs.

Down to 25% among young voters.  30% among Hispanics.  20% approval among Independents.  And now just 48% among white, non-college educated.

And worse, as previously, it’s hard to see things getting better for him, since he’s surrounded by unqualified incompetents, in their jobs largely for being loyal Yes Men – and because he himself has dementia which is degenerative.

And after all that came the news on Sunday that Trump’s friend and ally, Hungary’s authoritarian leader and borderline dictator Viktor Orban – who Trump loudly supported in his election campaign and for whom “JD Vance” was personally sent to campaign – got badly beaten after 16 years in office.  (No word yet if Orban, after finally having lost, will now be required to change his name from "Viktor".)  And worse than that, Orban’s extreme-right party was not only voted out of power, but his opponent Péter Magyar’s Tisza Party is expected to have a supermajority in Hungary’s legislature.

To be clear, new Prime Minister Magyar is still a conservative, though he’s not seen as an autocrat – rather, he’s considered center-right.  But most importantly in the U.S., it’s a horrible slam to Trump.

(Oddly, the biggest slam of all might be one that's a bit under the surface. Trump and MAGOPs have long considered Hungary as a blueprint for how they want the U.S. to go.  Indeed, it was even one of the models for their Project 2025.  That being the case, Trump should note that authoritarian Orban, who has been invited to address the far right's CPAC convention as one of its heroic exemplars, accepted the results of the election, didn't complain about rigged voting, and conceded.)

But then, Trump topped of his unrelentingly bad Sunday by committing political malpractice. That's when he went on a Trumpian meltdown rant and not only attacked Pope Leo (!), but was lunatic in how he did so.  In part -- and yes, this is only part --

"And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE, to do, setting Record Low Numbers in Crime, and creating the Greatest Stock Market in History. Leo should be thankful because, as everyone knows, he was a shocking surprise. He wasn’t on any list to be Pope, and was only put there by the Church because he was an American, and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump. If I wasn't in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican."

Fun Fact:  There are upwards to 70 million Catholics in the U.S.  And a few hundred million others who know who understand that at his core, Pope Leo is about preaching peace.  Hey, he's a White Sox fan, and even I like him.

On top of all this horrible news for Trump on this one day alone today (and it doesn't even include the Consumer Price Index rising on Friday), we can only imagine how much the horror of this all will affect Trump’s dementia -- which is degenerative.

The hell in his mind must be cyclonic.
